Besides the seven members who head various government departments, CTCC also has six other members from the public. These members from the public ensure that the "smoke-free" initiative involves all the citizen stake-holders.
After the basic ground work was done and it was agreed in principle that Chandigarh has to go smoke-free, a meeting of the top-levelgovernemnt executive was called in which the basic road map was worked out. This meetingof May 7, 2007 is paved the way for proper enforcement, adherence to the guidelines of the "Smoke-Free" concept and also was instrumental in making the formal announcement of "Smoke-Free Chandigarh"
Subsequent to the "Smoke-Free" initiative, the Chandigarh Administration formed " Chandigarh Tobacco Control Cell" with a view to keep the "Smoke-Free Chandigarh" project on track. The CTCC have senior most officials of all concerned department and also members of the public. The members of the public includes media personnel, social activist, community representative, advocates and tobacco control specialists.
